Bill Whittle discusses the message of one of his favorite movies of all time: FORBIDDEN PLANET!

The tendency of Smart People

The tendency of Smart People to think themselves smart enough to micromanage every detail of everyone's lives is one of the driving forces behind Leftism. They must portray their opponents as stupid (Ford, Reagan, Quayle, GW Bush, Palin) or evil (Nixon, Cheney, Rove), while elevating Dear Leader as Benevolent Übergenius. It never occurs to them that no single human mind is capable of containing the sheer volume of knowledge necessary to run everything.

Grammar nits:

A blog belonging to more than one founder is "The Founders' blog". Note the conspicuous absence of a post-apostrophe "s" in the plural possessive.

A father reacting badly to his daughter becoming attracted to a man is not "oedipal". That term is reserved for the attachment a child has to a parent of the opposite sex, not any similar feeling the parent may have for a child.

This is to me one of the

This is to me one of the greatest SF movies ever made, and the warning was never lost on me, but I would differ with Mr. Whittle on a point which may seem small but is not.
Mr Whittle calls our "base" nature a defect. I do not agree. Our base nature evolved as man evolved. Are all men defective? No. I believe (in the sense I do not have hard evidence but anecdotal) that many people, especially the intellectual elites ignore or deny their base natures. Ignoring or denying these natures, which after all are automatic responses to imprintable stimuli, allows them to manifest without control in the behaviors of those ignoring or denying them. See what happens when Dr. Morbius ignores his own emotions and instincts. See the rage and hate on the left, who are supposed to be the intellectual betters. Ignoring the Beast inside you allows him freedom to act.
Instead of subsuming our instincts and emotions, we should understand, control, and use them. Look at Star Trek, the series that Mr. Whittle dare not mention. In Kirk, Spock, and McCoy we see Instinct, Intellect, and Emotion respectively. Time and again during the series we see the problems that occur when one or more are missing or have dominance. When the three are balanced, there is success. And only instinct can lead in places where there is hidden danger like space. In other milieus, the intellect or emotion may be the one that needs to lead.
I see the left as being people who have ignored their instincts and in cases emotions in favor of the intellect. The right tends toward instinct and in some cases emotion but gives little credence to intellect. The left is more logical, but the right has more "common sense." The left in most cases lacks emotional self control, and the right lacks the ability to formulate reasoned argument.
I am for the middle course. "To thine own self be true." Learn to control your intellect, emotions and instincts to work for you. Never ignore or deny them. All these are still here not as relics, but as useful tools to help us survive.

It's outstanding; another Whittle gem.

I was wondering what you

I was wondering what you thought of "The Fighter"? I know it is pretty rough, and the characters very flawed, but are not we all? What I loved about it was that everyone was searching for redemption. Though it was through the central character, it was still genuine, and sometimes in life we all need someone or something to believe in. To see the redemption that happens and the catharsis the characters go through made me cry. Anyway, as soon as I get more funds, I will make a donation, I can only wish we had another John Wayne. I leading man who will only take scripts that will show the best in us all, and the things we all strive for in life. To be good, and to do better.
Thanks for your reviews, I love them.

Sincerely,
Jim Flanagan

Wonderful explanation of facts aivalbale here.

The report provides an stock

The report provides an stock with the existing scenario: "12 light poles with tops stay standing (although quite a few tops are leaning), only 8 lights function and 3 poles are entirely gone."The price estimate for labor and supplies to fix the 4 nonfunctioning lights: a bit far more than $1,700.

Obtaining eleven Jefferson

Obtaining eleven Jefferson lanterns and changing 3 lacking poles would expense just a lot more than $18,000, without having labor. Jefferson and Hancock lanterns arrive from your authentic maker, Spring Town Electrical Production Organization, of Spring Metropolis, Pa.; one more alternative would be to alter the model to 1 provided by means of Heritage Lanterns, of Yarmouth.
