FIREWALL: Eat the Rich!
Producer Notes Categories:
Is America really broke? Michael Moore (and others) tells us that there are oceans of cash being hoarded by the wealthy. But Iowahawk did a little addition, and armed with these statistics Bill Whittle and the 'Hawk blow a hole in the "hoarding" lie big enough to fit a documentary filmmaker through.

Very good. I'm a big fan of iowahawk, and think you did a good job of making it visual...
Would like a bit more prominent credit being given to him, so that more are exposed to his oeuvre

The video makes you think.
The video makes you think. However, I'd like to see statistics applied to the other side as well--let's cut heavily from government and see what it really affects---how many jobs are lost, what kinds of things go away in our lives that increase costs. I say this only so there is a balance in the presentation and then maybe we, as a country, can come together to discuss what the priorities need to be.
Take away the fear and bring on the objectivity. The Eat the Rich video does a good job of doing this to the most polarizing liberal arguments--let's do the same on the right and have a talk. It would get people's attention. Thank you!
^^Yes. Agree wholeheartedly.

If you want to know what the
If you want to know what the effect of reducing government spending will be just look at Britain where consumer spending had dropped 17% under their new austerity plan. The fall out of that will be a further round of private lay offs, further reducing tax revenues. Nothing fails like failure.
You forgot to mention the
You forgot to mention the States... If the Federal Government gets all the money what about all the state budgets, then local cities and towns. That must be included, which means you really don't make it the entire year...
Straw man argument, totally.
Straw man argument, totally. Nobody said we should stop taxing everybody, end all other revenue streams, and fund the government completely on the backs of the rich.
Please take another look.
Please take another look. Yes, the middle class is indeed taxed (filed mine a few weeks ago) but he was specifically replying to Michael Moore's assertion at the beginning of the video.
And as to "Nobody said" I remember a CSPAN Washington Journal segment on tax policy in which one caller said "I hope they do start taxing the rich; then the rest of us can take it easy!" That caller isn't the only one, believe me.
@Anonymous - you're an idiot!
@Anonymous - you're an idiot! Stick your head back in the sand!
Can you also make a good case
Can you also make a good case for taking away the tax breaks for the rich and supporting everything the oil companies and the health companies do? No we can't trust what you do because your lives are ran in the name of greed. You prove it to us everyday. You forgot that you wanted America to roll over all its retirement and invest it in the stockmarket that tanked under your republican president. Then you said that the president didn't really have any power and it was all the fault of congress. And finally now you want all Americans to give up Medicare and Medicade so that all the insurance companies can reap the wealth of the old and dying. It is all about you and if we gave it all to you it still wouldn't be enough. That's right! Then your greedy would turn on each other until everything is lost for everybody. Just the way history has taught us. Lie, cheat, steal. Your the best at it and your kind always have been.
@ Anonymous You are right
@ Anonymous You are right that there needs to be reforms in our tax code. That GE, one of Obama's pet corporate giants, (and others) paid no Fed taxes is an abomination. At the same time, remember that the rich individuals already provide the majority of income tax revenue. However, something also has to be done about entitlements. I don't like it, you don't like it, but something must be done or we will have none. Besides, it's not true that anyone is asking Americans to "give up" Medicare & Medicaid, but changes must be made. Why there isn't the same urgency to reform the tax code baffles me, but no Dem is trying to do anything about that either, so it doesn't fall all on the Repubs (lipservice only from both sides). As to Obamacare, it's Hillarycare Mark II. It caters to the insurance companies by essentially giving them ~35M more clients. The only good thing in that bill is the pre-existing condition stipulations. Also not true is that "we" conservatives wanted all of S.S. to be in the stock market. Bush proposed that taxpayers could voluntarily choose to have up to 1/3 of their S.S. payments invested in the market, with an initial cap of $1000 per year, with checks on older payers to keep them in conservative investments. No different than a 401-K. How did yours do when the market crashed? Mine did lousy, but, as always, it is picking up stseam and on the rise, for now. Anything would be better than giving it all to the government. Now, Obamacrats have thrown in a 2% one year tax cut for individuals' S.S. tax, a cut nobody but politians had asked for. Let's see, S.S. is in trouble, so let's reduce the amount we take in. Good thinking there, eh? And do some research on who proposed reforms for Fannie & Freddy because of their bad practices and who defended them. Then tell me who's responsible for the maket downturn and the housing crisis. It would take another "book" to address the "lie, cheat, steal" issue, so maybe some other time. Same with congress vs president argument. Meantime, if you want a socialist society like Michael Moore wants, have at it. I defend your right to hold that viewpoint...S.F.
Safe to assume this was being
Safe to assume this was being somewhat sarcastic considering it was statistically irrevelant? Always fun to watch the extremes from both sides argue back and forth about each other's worthless far left/far right arguments while the majority of us somewhere in the middle slowly step away for fear of getting caught in the crossfire. How many people truly align themselves with these extremists?
As they say, its the loudest that get the attention, not necessarily the smartest. I would feel safe betting that most people understand we need to spend less regardless of where it gets cut.
Would be a much more powerful
Would be a much more powerful video if it just gave the stats and left off the comments and posturing.
Nice idea, badly executed.
Very, very cool video. Who
Very, very cool video.
Who are you kidding (Would be more powerful)? The fact that we have let our County get into this mess is because "We the People" have become drooling blobs as an electorate; we need to be entertained. Facts and stats put us to sleep. If you are interested, dig up the stats and for yourself. I am. In any case, whether you're left, right, in the middle, a Constitutionalist, an anarchist... whatever, we can't sustain these expenses.
As far as facts go, know what the original income tax code said that an average wage earner should be? 1%! That's right. And if you were really rich, 6%.
Besides, a graduated income tax is straight out of the Communist Manifesto. Look that up too!
